Obituary of Leonard Royce Hubbard. Sr.

     Mr. Leonard Royce Hubbard Sr., 72, of New Hartford, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Wynn Hospital in Utica. 

     Leonard was born in Utica on February 27, 1951, the son of Ronald Hubbard and foster son of Mabel and Ambrose Hamlin. He was raised in Utica and received his education in Utica schools. Leonard proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served in Vietnam and was awarded The National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal for exemplary behavior, efficiency and fidelity, and a Combat Action Ribbon that is the most highly regulated and retroactively applied award in the Navy and Marine Corps, for engaging with the enemy and being under hostile fire or attacked by the enemy.  

     At one time, Leonard was married to Joann Delaney, the mother of his 4 children. For a number of years, Leonard was employed as a carpenter in the Utica area. Leonard was also a bartender at multiple establishments in the Utica area until he retired and moved to SC for many years and then later moved back to the area. He was a member of the Whitestown Vets, and a parishioner of St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church in Utica. Leonard enjoyed cookouts with family and friends, playing pool, darts, horseshoes, cornhole, Scat/31, puzzles, refinishing tables, and yard work. He was a big collector, especially of military and NASCAR memorabilia and truly loved animals especially his beloved cat Mama Kitty, beloved puppy Titan and cockatiel Buddy. 

     Mr. Hubbard is survived by his three children, Christie Hubbard of New Hartford, Leonard Hubbard, Jr. and his fiancée Bridget Warren of Utica, Tina Hubbard and Mark Malinowski, Sr. of Oriskany, and Mike Lyman of Utica, who was like a son to him; step-mother, Kathy Hubbard of Rome; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald and Kathleen Hubbard of Remsen, Richard and Kelly Hubbard of Rome and William and Kim Hubbard of Bridgewater; one sister, Tammy Hubbard of Utica; his grandchildren, “Wolfgang” Daniel Tripoli, II, Goddaughter, Saralyn and Sam Cavo, Tyler Hubbard and his fiancée Monica Blunt, Sabrina and Doug Rouse, Angelica Crescenzo, Donnie Pitcher, Annabella Malinowski, Mark Malinowski, Jr., and Joshua and Taylor Dukette; great grandchildren, nieces, especially Laura Tremblay, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Ronald Hubbard, foster parents Mabel and Ambrose Hamlin, son, Joshua Hubbard; sisters, Shirley Billings, Missy Hubbard, and Virginia Hamlin; and brother-in-law Charles Hamlin. 

     Leonard "Wolfy" had a lot of lifelong friends, Linda Carey, Joe Farr, William Magee, Bill Dodson, Cheryl Johnson, Doris Cameron Buchanan, Patsy Aulbach and Paul Marchefka Sr.; predeceased by Armon Ricci, Gary Chwazik, and Al Sykes, Jr.  

     A very special thanks to Heidi Wilson, Dave Farley, Kirsti Wilson and Kevin Parisi for all the love, compassion, laughs and memories over the last few years. 

     Visitation for family and friends is Friday, December 22, 2023, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica followed by a funeral service at 4:00 p.m. at the conclusion of Visitation. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to (Marine Corps Toys for Tots or Anita’s Steven Swan Humane Society, Utica) in Leonard’s memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
