Bootsie was born February 2, 1934 in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of Eugene and Eleanor (Pfleger) Bott. She was raised and educated in Utica. On June 23, 1956, Bootsie married Roy C. Mahardy, sharing a union of nearly 60 years. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting and had fond memories of her trips to Maine. Bootsie was of the Catholic faith. Bootsie is survived by her beloved husband, Roy Mahardy, Utica; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Greg Mahardy, Utica, Scott and Karen (of whom she thought of as her own daughter) Mahardy, Deerfield. Also surviving are Grammie’s Little Angels, Megan, Kaitlin, and Jessica. She leaves two sisters and a brother-in-law, JoAnn Novak, Whitesboro, Jackie and Tom Santora, Sherrill; two special sisters-in-law, Shirley Mahardy, Utica, Linda Mosca, Marcy; two dear friends, Josie and Irma; as well as several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a sister, Marilyn Tyoe; a brother, Richard Bott; a nephew, David Santora; and a brother-in-law, Ron Novak. Mrs. Mahardy's services, entrusted to the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica, will be held privately at the convenience of the family, Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton. Those wishing may donate to a charity of your choice in Bootsie’s memory. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of both St. Elizabeth Medical Center as well as Hospice & Palliative Care for the care and compassion shown to both Barbara and her family.
