Ms. JoEllen Hughes, 80, of Whitestown passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.

     JoEllen was born in Herkimer, NY on April 3, 1944, daughter of the late George and Ruth (Quackenbush) Hughes.  JoEllen was raised in Herkimer and graduated from Herkimer High School, she later attended University of Buffalo.  JoEllen worked for H&R Block for 54 loyal years, starting as receptionist and working up to Franchise Owner based out of Oneonta.  In her spare time JoEllen enjoyed crafts from painting, quilt making, woodworking of all sorts and she enjoyed craft fairs. 

     JoEllen is survived by her children Scott VanDyke and his wife Mary, Kristin Van Dyke, both of Oriskany, Todd Van Dyke and his wife Adeline, Utica, sisters Sherry Bolten and husband Dick, Norway, NY, Susan Regan and husband Jack, Little Falls, NY, grandchildren Danielle, Emilie, Andrew, Elizabeth, Alex, great grandchildren Rory, Kaiden, Edward and one little one on the way, along with several nieces and nephews.  JoEllen had a loyal canine companion Phoenix, they were best of friends.

     Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 4PM-6PM at Heintz Funeral Service, Inc. 408 Herkimer Road, Utica, NY.  She will be laid to rest privately in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer, NY along with her parents.
