Obituary of William F. Nugent

     Mr. William F. Nugent, 94, of Oriskany, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at his home, with his loving family by his side.

     William was born in Long Island City, NY, on February 17, 1930, the son of George and Mary Nugent and received his education there. William proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War.  In 1954, William was united in marriage with Nancy Marie Cavalleri, a loving and devoted union of 12 years, until Nancy’s unexpected death in 1966. In 1988, he married Angela M. Hoyle and the couple shared 36 years together, until Angela’s recent death in February of this year. At one time, William was employed with Sperry Gyroscope in Long Island and more recently with Pettibone Equipment in Rome. William was an avid sports enthusiast, especially baseball, and even aspired to be a professional baseball player in his youth. He was a past coach of the Pettibone softball team and enjoyed watching old movies, especially Svengoolie. He was of the Catholic faith.

     Mr. Nugent is survived by his three daughters and two sons, Patricia and Lawrence Hornak of GA, William Nugent and his partner, Joe Williams of FL, George and Becky Nugent of Clinton, Mary Nugent of Oriskany and Nancy and Mark Gillette of Whitesboro. William shared a special relationship with Angela’s sister, Lois Hoyle of Utica. Also surviving are Angela’s children as well as several cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. Besides his wife Nancy and wife Angela, William was predeceased by an infant daughter, Elizabeth and special family friend, Joe Nasso.

     Mr. Nugent’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the folks at the Veterans Administration as well as the loving nurses and staff at Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. for the tireless help and compassionate care you provided to Williams. A special thank you to Brandy and Bill from the VA and Williams’s personal aide, Omar, for the wonderful care and assistance you provided to William.

     In keeping with William’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services.
