Obituary of John Michalski, Jr.
Mr. John Michalski, Jr., 85, of Utica, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024, at the Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Utica.
John was born in Amsterdam, NY, on January 11, 1939, the son of John, Sr. and Helen (Nevich) Michalski. He was raised in Amsterdam, was a graduate of Amsterdam High School and earned a certificate in electronics from the DeVry Institute in Chicago. On October 14, 1961, John was united in marriage with Barbara M. Montenaro, a loving and devoted union of 43 years until Barbara’s death in 2004. For many years, John was employed with General Electric Company in Utica, where he proudly worked on the E2C project. He was a gifted musician who especially enjoyed playing the accordion, drums, guitar, harmonica and keyboard. In his younger years, John enjoyed building electronic gadgets with his children, as well as performing skits with his children and their friends. He was a parishioner of St. Mark’s Church in N. Utica.
Mr. Michalski is survived by three loving daughters, Barbara-Jo H. and Angelo “Andy” Palm of Hinckley Lake, NY, Helen M. Flucker and her longtime companion, Mike Hughes of Woodbridge, VA and Janine Ellen and Hilario Villeda of Hope Mills, NC; five cherished grandchildren, Danita Darbey of TX, Kim Banogon of Washington State, Darlene Micah-Rosa of CA, John Villeda of NC and Leilani Villeda of NC and four adored great grandchildren, Grace Darbey, Arthor Banogon, Gwendolyn Banogon and Sam Rosa.
Visitation for family and friends is Wednesday, June 19, 2024, from 4:00-5:00 pm at the Heintz Funeral Home 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica, followed by a funeral service at 5:00 pm at the conclusion of visitation. He will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, 2407 Oneida St., Utica on Thursday, June 20th at 11:00 am. Please omit floral offerings and consider donating to the Herkimer County Humane Society, 514 State route 5S, Mohawk, NY 13407 in John memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
