Obituary of Jean Marie LaPlante
Jean Marie LaPlante, 68, of Fairport, NY, formerly of Utica, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Highland Hospital in Rochester, with her loving family by her side.
Jean was born in Utica, on August 28, 1955, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Rose (Gillespie) Holtslag. She was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in North Utica. At one time, Jean was employed with Price Chopper in both South Utica and North Utica and for over 30 years, was employed in the food service industry in Utica. Jean enjoyed crafts, cooking and was a horror movie and Hallmark Christmas movie enthusiast. She was a parishioner of St. Peter’s Church in North Utica.
Ms. LaPlante is survived by her four loving daughters, Melissa LaPlante of Whitesboro, Denise LaPlante and Jason Pitoniak of Fairport, NY, Heather Nichols and her husband, Larry Jr. of Oneida County and Nicole LaPlante of North Utica; 15 cherished grandchildren, Travina, Abrria, Aaliyah, Khalia, Alphonse Jr. “Fonzie Bear”, Elysia, Briana, Larry III, Noah, Nakia, Nazeer, Rahsaun, Tyshaun, Aniyah “Lily Lou”, and Tyrone Jr; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Joseph and Sandy Holtslag of Greensboro, NC, Jim and Gail Holtslag of Knoxville, TN, Tim Holtslag of California and William and Cathy Holtslag of Whitesboro; Jean’s cousins, the Springer family, Amacher family and Keifl family and dear friend, Robert Walker as well as several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Leslie Miller, parents, Joseph and Mary Rose Holtslag and beloved granddaughter, T’Keyah "Titti Bum Bum".
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Jean’s memorial Mass of Christian burial on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, 422 Coventry Ave., North Utica; She will be laid to rest in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro. Visitation for family and friends is Tuesday, July 2nd from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica, prior to the Memorial Mass.
