Obituary of Rudolph J. Marangi

Please share a memory of Rudolph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mr. Rudolph J. “Rudy” Marangi, of Utica passed away peacefully at Buffalo General Medical Center, Buffalo, NY with his loving family at his side. He would have been 87 years old in August.

Rudy was born in Utica, NY on August 18, 1937, son of the late Dominick and Rose (Saladina) Marangi. He was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Thomas R. Proctor High School Class of 1955. He furthered his education receiving an associate’s degree as an Electrical Technician. Rudy was also proud of serving in the US Army and was honorably discharged after several years of faithful and loyal enlistment. On September 17, 1960, Rudy was united in marriage to Joanna E. Gelfuso at St. Anthony’s Church, Utica, a loving and devoted union of nearly 64 years. Rudy was employed as an Electrical Technician his whole career, first working for Univac, followed by Bendix, and lastly Collins Aerospace where he worked right up to the age of 83. Rudy enjoyed making his own wine, was an avid cyclist, and was an outdoors enthusiast. He lived life to the fullest and he was a joy to be around. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed everyone else having a good laugh along with him, which is why he became a member of the “Flub Dub” club.  He was a longtime member of the “Proctor Boys,” a group of Proctor graduates from the 1950’s who have been meeting monthly for years.

Rudy is survived by his loving wife Joanna, daughter Gina Cecere, and her husband William III, Buffalo, NY, son Dominic and Lisa Marangi, Jacksonville, NC, along with eight grandchildren William IV, Lauren, Rudy, Dominic, Lindsey, Lesley, Elena, Alex, several nieces, and nephews as well a lifelong friend of the Marangi family friend, Frank Tomaino.  He was predeceased by his parents Dominick and Rose Marangi; and four brothers, Victor, Louis, Jerry, and John Marangi.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Celine and Vincent Visengardi as well as neighbor, Beverly Szczerba and family, for all their support.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, July 8, 2024, at 12PM (Noon) at St. Anthony-St Agnes Church, 422 Tilden Ave. Utica, NY, 13501.  Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
