Obituary of Gene W. Dechene

Mr. Gene W. Dechene, 81, formerly of Clark Mills, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 7, 2024, at the Presbyterian Home in the town of New Hartford.

     Gene was born in Tupper Lake, NY on October 24, 1942, the son of the late Louis R. DeShane and Winifred Garrow DeShane. Gene was raised and educated in the Utica area.  After school he enlisted with the US Army and proudly served our country, before being honorably discharged.  Gene was extremely proud of being a veteran.  Gene was previously employed by CABVI, Utica.  Gene enjoyed fishing, when he could and loved watching sports, especially football.  Gene was a huge advocate for the handicapped.  He was of the Lutheran faith. 

     He is survived by his children, Kathleen (Richard) Cardinal, Kelly Lubeck, Wayne (Sandy) Dechene, grandchildren Rebecca (Justin) Anderson, Alyssa (Jeff) Feenstra, Christopher Dechene, great grandson Lucas Anderson, Siblings Darlene Deschene, Sharon (Art) Garhartt, Cheryl Dinneen, John (Barb) DeShane, Holly DeShane, Robin (Joseph) Nalaskowski, along with several nieces and nephews.

     Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Gene’s funeral service on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 7PM from Heintz Funeral Service, Inc, 408 Herkimer Road, Utica, NY.  Visitation will be held prior to his funeral service from 5PM-7PM at the funeral home.  Interment will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemtery at the convenience of the family.

     Mr. Dechene’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to nurses and staff of the Presbyterian Home, especially Alyssa Rivera for the loving care and compassion shown to Gene and his family.
