Obituary of Gary R. Campbell
Mr. Gary R. Campbell, 77, of N. Utica, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at the Abraham House in Utica.
Gary was born in Utica, on September 17, 1947, the son of Harry D. and Ruth M. (Kelly) Campbell. He was raised and educated in Utica, was a graduate of Utica Free Academy and Utica College. Gary proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. For 25 years, Gary was employed with Mohawk Hospital Equipment and for the last 47 years, was owner and operator of The Dinghy Bar in Utica, where he made many dear friends. Gary was an avid golfer and sports fan. His favorite teams included the NY Yankees, NY Giants, Chicago Black Hawks and Syracuse University football and basketball. Gary’s greatest joy was spending time with his beloved family and dear friends.
Mr. Campbell is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Todd and Tonia Campbell and John and Heather Campbell all of Nebraska; three cherished grandchildren, Madyson, Ian and Kinzley; one brother and sister-in-law, Bradley and JoAnn Campbell of Whitesboro as well as several nieces, nephews and dear friends, especially, Steve (Carol) Szatko, Phil “Shine” (Tamara) Mariotti, Mark “Socko” (Tammie) Sokolowski, Sean McGuirl, Steve (Jackie) Heitz, Don (Sue) Synakowski and John (Lauren) Dodge and his golf buddies, James Wurz, Paul (Lori) Holehan, Bob “Foote” (Kathy) Foote and Bill “The General” Weimer. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Ruth and brother, Greg Campbell.
Visitation for family and friends is Friday, October 18, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica followed by a prayer service and time to share fond memories at 12:00 noon at the conclusion of visitation. He will be laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery in Utica. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Abraham House, 1203 Kemble St., Utica, NY 13501 in Gary’s memory.
