Obituary of Eleanor R. Woods
Mrs. Eleanor R. Woods, 99, of Whitesboro, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024, at Wynn Hospital with her loving family by her side.
Eleanor was born in Utica, on September 18, 1925, the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Blair) Martin. She was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School. In 1946, Eleanor was united in Marriage with William E. Woods, Sr. At one time, Eleanor was employed with Utica Cutlery Company and for almost 33 years until her retirement, in the dietary department with Utica State Hospital. After her retirement, Eleanor went back to work with several lawyers in the Utica area as a home health aide. She was a member of Knights of Columbus council 189 ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Whitesboro post 1113 Ladies Auxiliary and a parishioner of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Whitesboro. Eleanor was a dog lover, especially her beloved Heidi and enjoyed cooking, gardening and kept her lawn in meticulous condition which was the envy of the neighborhood.
Mrs. Woods is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William E. and His wife Cheryl (Rehor) Woods; five cherished grandchildren, Erin (Kast) and Brant Lasher, David Zammiello, Louie Zammiello and Christopher Woods; four adored great grandchildren, Anderson Lasher, David Zammiello, Jr., Zach Zammiello and Jordan Kast; son in law Louie Zammiello as well as several nieces and nephews, especially Pat Ryan and Melvin and Linda Martin, who Eleanor shared a special bond with. She was predeceased by her two daughters and one son-in-law and grandson, Maureen (Woods) and Jack Kast, Suzanne (Woods) Zammiello and Jason Kast as well as several brothers and sisters.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Eleanor’s memorial Mass of Christian burial on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 16 Park Ave., Whitesboro. She will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery in Yorkville. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association in Eleanor’s memory. Envelopes will be available at church.
