Daniel “Murph” Murphy, 71, of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Wynn Hospital in Utica.

Dan was born in Middletown, NY on January 18, 1953, the son of Frederick and Gloria (Gales) Murphy. He was raised and educated in Utica and graduated from Utica Free Academy. On May 14, 2005, he was united in marriage with Nanci M. Piechowicz. He was of the Catholic faith.

Dan had a career in sales before joining his father and brother in the family business, Murphy Contracting. He was a phenomenal baseball player, magnetic on the dance floor, and he truly enjoyed doing odd jobs around his home. His smile was infectious and, above all else, he loved his family.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Nanci; daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Nick Tyson of Seminole, FL; three cherished grandchildren, Aurora, Layla, and Henley; step-daughter, Traci LaVallee and her husband Brendan Snodgrass of New York City; two sisters and two brothers, Christopher and Joanne Murphy of Reno, NV, Patricia and Thomas Brindisi of Sauquoit, NY, Kevin and Linda Murphy of New Hartford, NY, and Jacqueline and Joseph Booth of New Hartford, NY; brother-in-law, John Piechowicz of Deansboro, NY and sister-in-law Judy and Gary Hoffman of Madison, NY, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Gloria Murphy, brother, Rick Murphy, and sister, Kathleen Dyman.

Dan’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Razia and her staff at Slocum Dickson Medical Group, and to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Wynn Hospital for the wonderful care and compassion provided to him. Your kindness will not be forgotten.

Those wishing to donate in Dan’s memory, please consider the American Cancer Society.

There are no services planned at this time. A celebration of life to honor Dan will be held at a later date.
