Mr. Edward Michael Childs, 85, of Summerfield, Fl., formerly of Sauquoit, NY passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2015 in Florida. Edward was born in Ilion, NY on July 4, 1930, the son of William A. and Evelyn (Mergenthaler) Childs and received his education in local schools. On August 1, 1953, Edward married Regina M. Apel at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Chadwicks, NY. For many years, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator with Oneida County Department of Public Works in Oriskany until his retirement. He was of the Catholic Faith. Mr. Childs is survived by his beloved wife Regina; two daughters, Debra Childs of Rome, NY and Linda Childs of Boston, MA; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Becky Childs of Reno, NV; five cherished grandchildren, Matthew Sutherland, Heather Sutherland, Edward Childs, Christina Pickerel and Shawn Childs; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pearl and Timothy Dunn of Mohawk, NY and Mary and Gary Urich of Mohawk, NY; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Ernest Childs of NC, Emmett and Hazel Childs of Mohawk, NY and William Childs of Mohawk, NY as well as eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles Childs and James Childs. Mr. Childs' funeral will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Chadwicks where his Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. His rite of Committal and burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Clinton. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your favorite charity.
