Obituary of Robert A. Williams
Mr. Robert A. Williams, 84, of Remsen, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
Robert was born in Utica, on November 15, 1940, the son of Richard and Agnes (Murray) Williams. He was raised in Whitesboro and was a graduate of Whitesboro High School. Robert proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1963. On January 18, 1964, Robert was united in marriage with Marie P. Brown, a loving and devoted union of 56 years until Marie’s death in 2020. For many years until his retirement, Bob was employed with the Holland Patent School District. He was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed the peacefulness of sitting on his porch, and especially loved his dogs. He was a 20+ year volunteer of the Boxing HOF and was a driver in their annual parade. He was also very proud of his Irish heritage. Bob was well known for his sense of humor in many of the pubs and restaurants in the Utica area and had hundreds of friends. He was a member of American Legion post 1376 in New Hartford and a parishioner of Historic Old St. John’s Church in Utica
Mr. Williams is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert M. and Amy Williams of Newton, MA; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara (Williams) and Randy Hughes of Trenton, NY; five cherished grandchildren, Brittany Roberts, Stephen (Jess) Sobel, Carley Roberts, Shannon (Charbel) Chelala and Ryan Williams; 4 adored great grandchildren, Orion, Paisley, Clayton and Kelsei; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Betty Williams of Marcy, Bill and Susan Williams of Utica and John and Sue Williams of Washington Mills; brother-in-law, Fred Martin of Trenton and two dear friends, Erin and Mike M. as well as several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Janet Roberts, brother, Richard Williams and sister, Janet Martin.
Visitation for family and friends is Sunday, January 12, 2025, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica, followed by a service at 4:00 p.m. at the conclusion of Visitation. A funeral Mass of Christian burial and interment in Forest Hill Cemetery, with military honors, will follow in the spring.
