SHREVEPORT, LA / ORISKANY, NY - Donald E. Oakley, 82, of Louisiana, formerly of Oriskany, passed away Friday, November 6, 2015 at the Veterans Hospital in Shreveport, LA. Donald was born October 14, 1933, in Port Angeles, Washington, the son of William and Evelyn (Robinson) Oakley. He was raised and educated in Newark, Ohio. On February 19, 1955, Donald married Carol J. Fay at St. Stephen's Church in Oriskany. Mrs. Oakley passed away in January of 2010. Donald served his country for 16 years with the US Air Force, where he served during the Korean War and received the Air Medal. He later was employed with Mohawk Airlines, Madden Concrete, and then the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany. He was a member of St. Stephen's Church until its closing, and then became a parishioner of St. Paul's Church in Whitesboro. He was a 50 year member of the Whitesboro American Legion Post #1113. Donald was also an avid NY Yankee and NY Giants fan. Donald is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Laura Ruen, Jacksonville, FL, Therese and Steven Oehme, Pittsburgh, PA, Vicki Oakley, Jacksonville, FL; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Tina Oakley, Whitesboro, Todd and Audra Oakley, Bossier City, Louisiana; 14 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Sharon Bennett, Ohio, and a sister-in-law, Nancy Fay, Clinton. He is predeceased by a brother, Ernest Oakley. A memorial mass will be held for Mr. Oakley on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 11:30 am at St. Paul's Church, Whitesboro, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment, in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Whitestown, will take place at the convenience of the family. Those wishing may donate to the American Diabetes Association in Donald's memory.
