Mrs. Doris Jane (Branigan) Gallagher, 89, of Jimmy Blvd., passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, with family members by her side. Doris was born in Utica on March 20, 1926, the daughter of the late James V. and Mary (McCarthy) Branigan. Doris attended St. Francis de Sales School. On July 30, 1944, Doris was united in marriage with Edward J. Gallagher, at St. Francis de Sales Church. Edward passed away on December 28, 1998. Doris was employed for many years at Marine Midland Bank in Utica. She enjoyed her independence and spent numerous hours tending her expansive garden. Doris was a past active member of the Utica Maennerchor and the Eagles Club. Doris will be remembered most for her endless energy. Doris is survived by four sons and daughters-in law, Michael and Faye Gallagher, Dade City, Fl., Gary and Elizabeth Gallagher, New Hartford, NY, Mark and Nancy Gallagher, Ilion, NY, and Matthew and Teresa Gallagher, Somerville, SC, many loved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law, Nancy Perry, Dover, NH. Doris was predeceased by one brother, James Branigan and two sisters, Mary Branigan Ritzel and Agnes Branigan Hilliker. The immediate family would like to thank "Doris's Girls" for being such a big part of her life: Marcia, Judy, Patty and all the rest of her "Ritzel Daughters", she loved you all dearly. Doris was especially grateful throughout her life for what she called "the best neighbors in the world", the Camp family of Jimmy Blvd. A service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date to better accommodate out of town family and friends.
