CLINTON - Lilly E.S. Keene, 93, a resident of Lutheran Care, formerly of Clinton, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the nursing home. Lilly was born August 1, 1922, in Dover, NJ, the daughter of Ernst W. and Frieda (Hahn) Hofmann. She was raised and educated in Dover, and went on to attend Drake School of Business in Patterson, NJ. On July 8, 1945, Lilly married Ralph Thomas Keene, sharing a union of sixty-four years until his passing in 2009. She had been employed with Picatinny Arsenal in Dover during World War II and later with the Christ Lutheran Church in Newburgh, NY. Lilly enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting, and crocheting, as well as following politics. She was a member of the Church Women United and WELCA. She also served on the Evangelism Committee and as Treasurer for several years at Our Saviour Lutheran Church. Lilly is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and John Needham, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, Jane Victoria "Vikki" and Clare Thiem, Clinton, NY; one son, Lt. Col. US Army Ret. Richard and Elaine Keene, Honeoye, NY; two grandchildren and their spouses, Maryann Keene and her husband Daniel Cronise, Rush, NY, and Dr. Ellen Keene and her husband Dr. Mark Dreibelbis, Midland, MI; four great-grandchildren, Galen, Anna and Elliot Keene-Cronise, and Lena Driebelbis. Mrs. Keene's funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 10:30 am at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Utica. Interment will take place in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Clinton. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton, Tuesday evening, October 20, 2015, from 4 - 7 pm.
