CLINTON - Fred S. Lomanto, 93, of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with his family by his side. Fred was born March 3, 1922 in Frankfort, NY, the son of Anthony and Maryann (Candella) Lomanto. He was raised and educated in Westmoreland, NY. On August 17, 1945, Fred married Arline M. Carpenter at St. Mary's Church in Hamilton. Mrs. Lomanto passed away in 2004. Fred had been employed with Toussaint Motor for 12 years and later for Jim's Garage in Kirkland. Fred then went into business with his brother Joe, co-owning and operating Clinton Body Shop on McBride Ave., before going on his own on Robinson Road in Clinton, retiring in 1989. Fred was a member of the Clark Mills Fire Dept. for over 50 years and a member of the Clinton Lions Club for over 35 years. He was also an antique car and street rod enthusiast and a member of the Tappit Twirlers Car Club. Fred had rebuilt many cars over the years, most recently his 1933 Ford Coupe. Fred enjoyed spending his time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially attending their sporting events through the years. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Clinton. Fred is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Barbara Lomanto, Clinton, and their family, Lisa and Ryan Tickle, Clinton, and Anthony and Jennifer Lomanto, MA; Fred and Karen Lomanto, Clark Mills, and their family, William and Sarah Lomanto, Melissa Lomanto, and Alexandra Lomanto and her significant other, David Roy III; one daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Joseph Lopata, and their family, Joseph and Valerie Lopata, New Hartford, and Jeremy and Meredith Lopata, Clinton, as well as by eight cherished great grandchildren, Emilio and Porter Lopata, Mia and Chelsea Lopata, Joslyn and Adam Schneider, and Nicholas and Joseph Lomanto. He is also survived by three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Lena and George Gazzel, Utica, Mary Bruni, Westmoreland, Frances and Guy Bonomo, Clark Mills; and a brother, Joseph Lomanto, Clinton, as well as by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves his companion, Nancy Dombrowski, Clinton, and her son, George Dombrowski, as well as his dear friend, Vinnie Vangura, and also his canine companion, "Princess". Fred is predeceased by a brother, James Lomanto; and three sisters, Sarah Shusky, Josephine Faga, and Lena Lomanto. Mr. Lomanto's funeral will be held on Monday, October 5, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Church, Clinton, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Parish Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton, Sunday evening from 4 - 7 pm. Those wishing may donate to the American Heart Association in Fred memory. The family would like to thank the Calidonna family for the help and care they gave Fred through the years. They are greatly appreciated.
