Obituary of Kay Franz

Please share a memory of Kay to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Catherine (Kay) Franz, September 4, 2015 at age 96, went to join her loving husband John, in heaven with grandson David Peters, sister Anna Keohane, and brothers John, Ambrose, Leonard and Arthur. She is survived by her children, John (Mary), Rose (Bob), Lin (Bill), Peter (Patricia), Paul (Valerie), and David (Anne), 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Kay was the daughter of John and Rose Bailey of Port Leyden, NY, where she graduated high school and went on to the Excelsior School of Business in Utica. She married John in 1947 and worked many careers in the Utica area, including Notre Dame HS and Utica College, from which she retired in 1984. Kay and John enjoyed 58 years with friends and family at Half Moon Beach on Piseco Lake, NY in the Adirondack Mountains. In her later years, she volunteered at Red Cross Blood drives, St. Luke's Hospital as well as her home parish, St. Joseph & St. Patrick. Kay and John were avid card players, which can be attested to by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many friends and family in Utica and during winters in Florida. Kay continued playing with her many good friends at Sunset Wood for the last 6 years. She was always ready with a smile and a deck of cards! Anyone who ever enjoyed a game of cards with her can bring a deck of cards to the funeral home, which will be donated to charity in her name. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church and a random act of kindness to someone in need is appreciated. The family wishes to thank the St. Luke's hospital staff and Dr. Sloan for their compassionate care given to Mom. Mrs. Franz's funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 8:45 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica, NY and at 9:30 at St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church, 702 Columbia St., Utica. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday from 4 - 7.
