Obituary of June Irene Benoit

Please share a memory of June to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On November 16th 2018, June joined her loving husband and passed into the hands of our Lord from her home in Schuyler Commons, Utica NY. She was born the eldest of Dean John and Hazel Irene (Smith) Wells. She was born and schooled in Watertown, NY. June started her schooling in a one-room schoolhouse and went on to graduate from Watertown High School. She extended her education at the Baptist Missionary Training School in Rochester and then Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. On August 11, 1946, she married and dearly loved Rev. Donald Prescott Benoit. She spent 68 happy years with him until his passing November 1st of 2014. Their union produced 11 children. Besides being head cashier at a local grocery during her college years, June was Don’s assistant through all of his years as a Baptist minister. Being a minister’s wife, she created all of the church bulletins (before computers), kept the business records, assisted with communications, scheduling and all aspects of his career. She was very active in all of the churches, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choirs and providing delicious food contributions to events. She was dining room manager at the Howard Johnsons in Syracuse for several years. She and Donald owned and operated several Benoit’s Restaurants in the Utica area for many years. June provided all of the home baked goods for all of the restaurants. She also sold her amazing baked breads and desserts to the public. All the while, she parented their growing family. June was strong, independent and intelligent. Her life was filled with hardships and challenges that would have shaken a lesser person to break. She set an amazing example of strength and character for their four daughters and seven sons. This past year, diagnosed with a fast growing cancer on her duodenum, she decided to enjoy her last days in her own home rather than a hospital. In these months, she has shared old stories and memories, made us laugh, shared her deepest thoughts and shown us, once again, how respect, love, patience and faith can make your life so much better. Her most valuable gift that she left to us, is her strength of character. She lived by example. She did not complain, ever. She did not speak ill of anyone. Her forgiveness was unquestionable and her compassion unlimited. God was her whole heart and soul through out her 94 years on this earth. She was selfless to a fault. Her match could only be found in heaven. June is survived by her sister Helen Willems of Goderich Canada and her brother Robert Wells of Mexico, NY, her children Sharon (Durwood) Bronson, David (Cynthia) Benoit, Ruth (Joel) Benoit, Verne Benoit, Dale (Sharon) Benoit, Donna (Denise) Benoit, Corey (Joyce) Benoit, Brian (Virginia) Benoit, Annette (Mark) Kinship, Don (Laurie) Benoit and adopted Doreen Jadwick. She is survived by 35 beloved grand children and 50 great grand children. June was predeceased by her husband, Donald Prescott and her youngest son Darryl Rene.
