Mrs. Mary Diane Hajdasz, 73, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Mary was born in Gyor, Hungary on March 7, 1942 the daughter of Sandor and Maria (Gross) Sarus. She came to the United States at the age of 13 and Mary and her family made their home in Rome, NY. At Blessed Sacrament Church in Utica, Mary was united in marriage to Rodney M. Hajdasz, Sr., and the couple made their home in North Utica and lovingly raised their two sons there. Rodney passed away in 2005. for 28 years, she was employed with Oneida County ARC until her retirement. Mary also worked for a time at the Toddle House in downtown Utica. She was an avid reader, a talented seamstress and enjoyed spending the summer months at her camp at Cape Vincent on the St. Lawrence River. Mary was an exceptional cook and baker and loved to cook and entertain her entire family for all occasion. She also enjoyed sharing her Hungarian and polish recipes with her family and friends. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her beloved family and dear friends. Mrs. Hajdasz is survived by her devoted sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney Jr. and Necol Hajdasz of Schuyler and John and Stephany Hajdasz of East Chatham, NY; three cherished grandsons, Nolan Michael Hajdasz, Nicholas Aaron Hajdasz and Matthew John Hajdasz; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Steve and Donna Sarus of Utica, Nick and Mary Jane Sarus of Sylvan Beach, George Sarus of Holland Patent and Fred and Joanne Sarus of Holland Patent; seven sisters and five brother-in-law, Theresa and Jim Plumb of Deerfield, Elizabeth Sarus of Holland Patent, Valerie and Don Smith of New Hartford, Carol and Bob Carnevale of Whitesboro, Margaret (Avy) and Ray Hanson of Sylvan Beach, Helen Shilling of Forestport and Julie and Rich Wilczek of Holland Patent; lifelong friend, Carmella Guzski of N. Utica and longtime friends, Mr. & Mrs. Zimmer of Cape Vincent as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Sandor Sarus. Mrs. Hajdasz's funeral will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Calling hours for family and friends are Sunday from 2:00-5:00 prior to the service.
