Captain Germain F. "Gerry" Doyle, 80, of Marcy, NY passed away peacefully with his loving family at his bedside on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Faxton St. Luke's hospital in Utica, NY. Gerry was born in 1935 in Utica, the son of Walter and Agnes (Egan) Doyle. He was a graduate of Clinton High School and earned his BA from the University of Arizona and his MS from the University of Southern California while serving in the U.S. Air Force (USAF). Gerry also earned a NYS teaching certificate through Utica College. Gerry married Carol A. Bowes at Sacred Heart Church, in 1957, a blessed union of 58 years. Gerry served honorably in the USAF for 20 years, at multiple domestic and international locations, including the Azores, Germany and Vietnam. After his retirement from the USAF, Gerry worked as a claims representative for 21 years at the Utica Social Security Administration. Gerry was a parishioner/Usher of St. Paul's Church, Whitesboro, NY and a member and past president of the Marcy Seniors. Gerry was an avid runner, and completed twenty five-15K Boilermakers, his last one being in 2013. Gerry had a passion for the games of basketball, baseball, and golf, and was a big Syracuse Orange, and New York Yankee's fan. Gerry was a prolific reader, and amateur bird watcher/feeder. He was always there to assist anyone with a general Social Security question, and was a great person to talk sports with, be it College and/or Professional. Gerry is survived by his beloved wife, Carol, his three children and their spouses, Lynette and Joe Costello of Farmington, NY, Michael and Linda Doyle of Binghamton, NY and Laura and Mark Petell of New Hartford, NY and seven grandchildren; William Stefanovich, Jennifer Stefanovich, Michael Paul Doyle, Amanda Bell, Alan Doyle, Madeline Petell and Benjamin Petell, and three great grandchildren; Sebastian Michael, Aiden and Ella, a sister, Marie Doyle of San Francisco, CA, a niece Hilary Skehan and nephew Brendan also of San Francisco, CA, a sister/brother-in-law, Joan and John Dillon, Sr. of Marcy, NY and many good friends, including Lou and Beverly Lombard, Jackie Matt, and Pat Davies of Marcy, NY and many many more loving nieces and nephews, including grandnieces and grandnephews, and cousins. Mr. Doyle's funeral, with full Military Honors, will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 10:45 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., Utica and at 11:30 from St. Paul's Church, Whitesboro. Burial will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday from 4-7.
