Obituary of Lois S. Zimmer

Mrs. Lois S. Zimmer, 87, a resident of the Loretto Nursing Home in Syracuse, formerly of Forestport and Utica, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at the nursing home with her loving family by her side. Lois was born in Pittsburgh, PA on June 17, 1927 the daughter of William and Olive (Kunkel) Smith. She was raised locally and was a graduate of Whitesboro High School. On May 24, 1947, Lois married Raymond G. Zimmer at St. Paul's Church in Whitesboro, a devoted union of 62 years until Raymond's death in 2009. At one time, Lois was employed as a bus driver with Whitesboro Central School. She was a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart Church in Utica, a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Syracuse, a member of the Alpha Beta Gamma Society and a member of St. Patrick's Church Women's Club in Boonville. Lois enjoyed bowling and participating in the many activities offered at the nursing home, especially bingo. Mrs. Zimmer is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Lynne and James Rumbutis of Yorkville, Deborah and Lawrence Gross of Indianapolis, IN, Laurie and Glenn Sparling of Syracuse and Michele and Frederick Weigel of Frankfort; one sons and daughter-in-law, Richard and Cynthia Zimmer of Syracuse as well as 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Blevins. Mrs. Zimmer's funeral will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 8:15 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and 9:00 at St. Mark's Church, 440 Keyes Rd., N. Utica where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Her Rite of Committal and burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro. Calling hours for family and friends are Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Those wishing to make a donation in Lois memory, please consider the Diabetes Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mrs. Zimmer's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Staff at the Loretto Nursing Home in Syracuse for the loving care and compassion provided to Lois. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
