Francis L. (Gus) Kervin, 94 , lifelong Clinton resident, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2015, with his family at his side. Gus was born in New Hartford on October 15, 1920, the son of Louis and Mary (Lallier) Kervin. He attended Franklin Springs and Clinton schools, graduating in 1940. On August 22, 1953 Gus married the love of his life Marjorie O'Brien at St Mary's Church in Clinton. He was employed at the Harding Telephone Co., as a signalman on the O & W Railroad, and finally from Griffiss AFB, retiring in 1981. Through the years, he was also a local bartender at various establishments, including the American Legion. Gus was very proud to serve his country with the US Navy during WWII, and served as a signalman on the USS Birmingham and was involved in the liberation of the Philippines. He was a member of Helmuth-Ingalls American Legion Post #232, of the Clinton Fire Dept., of the Utica Mohawk Valley Chapter of National Railway Historical Society, of the Clinton Historical Society and a member of St. Mary's Church, Clinton. Gus is survived by his wife Marjorie Kervin, Waterville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joan & Sam Markowski, Clinton, Ann & Jim Congden, Waterville. He also leaves three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Burrows, Harrisville, Betty O'Brien, Clinton, Carolyn O'Brien, California, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special friend of the family, Jacqueline Fox. Mr. Kervin's funeral will take place on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Church, Clinton, where his Mass of Christian Burial will take place. Interment will take place privately in St. Mary's Parish Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton, Tuesday, from 5 - 7 pm. The American Legion will hold their service for Gus at 6:30 pm.
