John J. Marleau, 88, of Deerfield, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica. John was born February 8, 1927, in Big Moose, NY, the son of Thomas and Ruth (Potter) Marleau. He was raised and educated in Old Forge, graduating in 1945, and went on to attend Montana State University and later graduating from Utica College where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in teaching. John served his country during World War II with the US Army and was stationed in Germany. On September 8, 1951, John married Nancy Greig in Ilion, NY. He went on to teach at Rouses Point, Old Forge, Winter Park, FL, and then in the Utica school system from where he retired. John was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and of the Republican Club in Deerfield. He was a member of Historic Old St. John's Church in Utica. John is survived by his wife, Nancy Marleau, Deerfield; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Thomas Smith, Utica, Gail and Henry Lemieux, Manchester, NH; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Timothy and Florence Marleau, Clintondale, NY, Jeffrey Marleau, Prospect, NY; eleven grandchildren, Kaile, Evan, Stacey, Karra, Lindsay, Matthew, Jerrod, Lauren, Christopher, Sean, and Kev; seven great-grandchildren, Brandon, William, Bryce, John, Lainey, Clara, and Peyton. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by two sisters, Ellen O'Day and Ruth Ann Gamache; three brothers, Thomas Raymond, and William Marleau. Mr. Marleau's funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 10:00 am at Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Whitestown. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica on Tuesday evening, (today) from 4 - 7 pm. Those wishing may offer Masses at Historic Old St. John's Church or donate to their food pantry in John's memory.
