Mrs. Jean F. Schulze, 85, a resident of the Katherine Luther Residential Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton, formerly of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at the nursing home with her loving family by her side. Jean was born in Utica on February 8, 1930, the daughter of James and Leah (Morton) Hill. She was raised in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On February 20, 1954, Jean married Francis Charles Schulze, a devoted union of 43 years until Francis' death in 1997. Jean was an active volunteer with Catholic Charities, Stevens-Swan Humane Society and the Neighborhood Center of Utica, where in 1995, she was the proud recipient of the Mother Lavender Award for her dedication to the Center. She also enjoyed baking, gardening and often cooked meals for the shut-ins in the area. Jean was of the Protestant faith. Mrs. Schulze was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by her beloved family; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Carl Johnston of Ilion; four sons and daughters-in-law, William and Deborah Schulze of SC, James and Judy Schulze of Ilion, George and Lori Schulze of Ilion and Edward and Ruth Schulze of NY Mills; 15 cherished grandchildren and their spouses, Drew Schulze, Bradley Schulze, Jaime and Eric Teachout, Jessica and Dan Groom, James Jr. and Jaime Schulze, Daniel Schulze, Amy Johnston and her fiancée Mark Lisandrelli, Nicole and Mike Pavia, Carl, Jr. and Alicia Johnston, Edward Schulze, Jr., Janee Schulze, Alexis Schulze, Michaela Schulze, Jared Hartman and Nathen Hartman; 9 adored great grandchildren, Olivia, Evan, Carter, Clayton, Christine, Aiden, Michael, Joey and Savanna; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Ruth Hill of Binghamton, NY; dear friends, Maryrita Alessandro and Joe Hill as well as several nieces, nephews and her canine companion, Wally. She was predeceased by her sister, Marie Potter. Mrs. Schulze's funeral will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 12:00 noon at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Her burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Utica. Calling hours for family and friends are Saturday from 10:00-12:00 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Hope House, the Utica Rescue Mission or Stevens-Swan Humane Society in Jean's memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
