Obituary of James H. Landers

James H. Landers, 81, of Utica, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2015 after a long and courageous battle with leukemia and is now reunited with his wife Barbara, who passed away on March 2 of this year. Jim was born in Utica on May 26, !933, a son of James J. and B. Margaret (Sorensen) Landers. He was a 1950 graduate of Utica Catholic Academy then attended Utica Technical Academy, Clarkson College and Utica College. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Jim married Barbara Kane on June 22, 1957 at St. Joseph's Church, Utica, a blessed union of 58 years. For over 30 years he was employed with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. Jim was a member of Sacred Heart Church until closing and a current member of The Church of the Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa in New York Mills. He was also a member of American Legion Fort Schuyler Post #1290, VFW Post #7393, Knights of Columbus and the Knights of Columbus Golf League, Nocturnal Adoration Society, and a former member of the Youth Advisory Board of Catholic Charities. In his earlier years, Jim was a referee for girls basketball and was a coach for boys basketball at Sacred Heart Church. Jim is survived by his five children and spouses, Donna and Cliff Campion, of Sunrise, FL, James and Tammie Landers, of Queensbury, NY, Gail and Michael Malone, of Schenectady, NY, Kristen and Peter Zilgme, of Delmar, NY and Jill and Nicholas Ltaif, of Niskayuna, NY, 15 grandchildren, Megan, Andrew, Catherine, Matthew, Stephanie, Brandon, Alyssa, Nikolas, Michael, Chelsea, Mackenzie, Erik, Emily, Joseph and Julie, two sisters, Patricia Bach, of GA and Kay Brownrigg and husband Charlie, of MD and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial Mass for Mr. Landers will be held on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 10:00 at The Church of the Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa, New York Mills. There are no calling hours. The family will greet visitors at the conclusion of the mass. Burial will take place in Saratoga National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Those so wishing may make donations to Hospice and Palliative Care or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
