Daniel Joseph McKernan passed away suddenly on April 12, 2015 at home at the age of 77. Daniel was born in Highland Park, MI on August 6, 1937, the son of the late James D'arcy and Robina (Easdale) McKernan. He spent his early years in Southfield, MI, where he graduated from Southfield High School in 1955. He then entered into the Military, serving as a Marine. In 1964 he married Barbara Moorehead and moved to Detroit. Daniel attended Lawrence Technological Institute, where he was awarded a bachelor's degree in Engineering. He worked full time, went to school full time, and was helping to raise his children. In 1969, the family, which now included a daughter, Barbara Lynn, moved to Deerfield. During his working years, Dan was a book salesman, worked in numerous grocery stores, and finally as an electrical engineer for General Electric and the Thompson Consumer Electronics until his retirement in 1997. During his time at General Electric he was afforded the opportunity to travel to many Asian countries. Dan bowled and played golf, but his biggest accomplishment was in being an excellent husband to Barbara and father to the couple's two children. Daniel coached James' little league team and never missed any of the sporting event for his children. He also enjoyed all of the time that he spent with his Grandchildren, whom he adored. He is survived by his children, Barbara Lynn McKernan(Michael Bush), of Whitesboro, and James Edwin McKernan (Gina), of Frankfort, and his grandchildren, Michael James Bush and Haley and Jillian McKernan, whom he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara. Calling hours for Mr. McKernan will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service on Thursday April 16th at 10:00 a.m. at Grandview Cemetery in Whitesboro. The family would like to thank the staff at the Villas of Shermanbrook for making his short stay there enjoyable.
