Alfred H. Phillips, 86, a resident of the Presbyterian Home for CNY, formerly of Clinton, passed away Monday, March 30, 2015 at the nursing home with his loving daughter Deb and son-in-law, Jim by his side. Alfred was born June 12, 1928, in Clinton, the son of Hugh F. and Mary (Roberts) Phillips. He was raised and educated in Clinton, and a graduate of Clinton Central High School. Alfred went on to serve his country with the US Army during the Korean War. On December 27, 1950, Alfred married Virginia L. Williams in Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica, sharing a union of almost 52 years, until her passing on December 15, 2002. He had been employed with General Electric for over 36 years, retiring in 1988. Alfred belonged to the Schilling-Burns-Young VFW Post 9591 in Clinton. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Clinton. Alfred is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Scott Bosshart, Vernon, CT, Debra and James Lopata, Whitesboro, NY; one son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Robin Phillips, Newburg, NY; six grandchildren, Erin Lopata, Justin Lopata (& his fiancée, Caitlin Ricci), Amanda Bosshart, Vanessa Bosshart, Kelly Phillips, Sarah Phillips; two great-granddaughters, Ava Lopata and Kaylee Lopata; one sister, Pauline Converse, Lawrenceville, NJ. He is predeceased by one sister, Kathleen Phillips, and three brothers, Hugh, William and Joseph Phillips. Mr. Phillips' funeral will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 9:30 am at St. Mary's Church in Clinton, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Kirkland. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton, Monday evening, from 5 - 7 pm. The Schilling-Burns-Young VFW Post 9591 will conduct their service at 6:30 pm. The family would like to offer their thanks and heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Presbyterian Home community, with a special thanks to Dorie, Theresa and Maria for the excellent care and many kindnesses shown to Alfred and his family during his stay. Those wishing may donate to a charity of your choice in Alfred's memory.
