Obituary of Alexander Marcel Major

Alexander Marcel Major, 83, of New Hartford, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Veterans Hospital in Syracuse with his loving family by his side. Marcel was born in Utica on April 2, 1931, son of Alexander and Florida (DesJardins) Major. His mother passed away when he was young and was raised by his stepmother Irene (Allard) Major. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served with the 2nd Armored Division "Hell on Wheels". Marcel married Marilyn Connelly at St. Patrick's Church, Utica on April 14, 1951. He was employed 20 years by Mohawk Containers until his retirement. Marcel was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, VFW Post #7393, New York Mills and the Disabled American Veterans. Marcel loved the outdoors especially hunting, fishing, and camping in the Adirondacks with his family. He also enjoyed playing shuffle board for the Knights of Columbus and playing cards. Marcel is survived by his beloved wife Marilyn of 63 years, his children; Michelle and Andre Sooklal, FL, Mark J. Major and Lynne Falchi New Hartford, Marie Major and Mike Kouf, Weedsport, Marilyn Anne and Alan French, Cicero, Marcianne and Joseph Iozzo, New Hartford, Maureen Major, Clinton, Matt Major, FL, and granddaughter, Megan Major and fiance Allan Goodhines, New Hartford. Grandchildren; Justin, Nick and David Tobiasz, Chloe Elizabeth Major, Marissa Terese, Alan Jr. and Jonathan French, Stephanie and Eric Iozzo, Alexander Marcel Major, and Matthew Major Jr. Great grandchildren; Jaydan Major, London and Lillian Tobiasz. Marcel was predeceased by his sister, Florence Forness and four brothers, Lionel, Albert, Ronald, and Richard Major. Mr. Major's funeral with Military Honors will be held on Friday, March 6, 2015 at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at 10:00 from Our Lady of The Rosary Church, New Hartford. Burial will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday from 4-7. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make donations to the Wounded Warriors in Alexander Marcel Major's memory. The family would like to thank all the nurses at Faxton-St. Luke's Dialysis Center and to Call A Bus Drivers Anthony, Dave, Jeff and Mike. A special thank you to Danny Mellito, Uncle Marc's nephew.
