Mrs. Grace T. McMahon, 86, of Utica, joined her beloved husband Robert in Heaven on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in New Hartford. Grace was born in Utica on September 13, 1928 the daughter of Angelo and Antonia (Pizzimenti) Tavernese. She was raised in Utica, was a graduate of Proctor High School and Utica School of Commerce. In 1964, Grace married the love of her life, Robert LeRoy McMahon at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church in Utica, a devoted union of 50 years until Robert's recent passing on February 23rd. Grace was employed with Utica State Hospital, Markson's Furniture, and was head book keeper for IBM in Utica. She was a member of the former Sacred Heart Church in Utica. As a polio survivor, Grace became a pioneer in efforts for handicap accessibility and was a big supporter of the Shriners. She also cooked meals for the Our Neighbors Program. One of the most enjoyable experiences was to listen to her vividly relate her memories. Mrs. McMahon is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael McMahon of Maryland and David and Eva McMahon of Rome; three cherished grandchildren, who affectionately called her Nonnie; Kayla McMahon, Josiah McMahon and Kierstyn McMahon and her fianée Shane Young; two adored great grandchildren, Sylvia Roberts and Colin Brough as well as several nieces, nephews and her feline companion, Mr. Kitty. She was predeceased by her sister, Nancy Roberts. Mrs. McMahon's funeral will be held on Monday, March 2, 2015 at 12:00 noon at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Her burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro. Calling hours for family and friends are Monday 10:00-12:00 prior to the funeral service.
