Clinton, NY - Donald B. Barrett, 80 , passed away at his home in Clinton on Sunday, January 4, 2015. Don was born in Norwood, MA, on April 17, 1934, the son of Patrick and Irene (Hannaford) Barrett. He was raised and educated in Massachusetts and was a graduate of Walpole High School in 1952. Don was a veteran of the US Army having served his country from 1954 until 1956. He later graduated from the Univ. of Massachusetts in 1960. Don moved to Clinton in 1972, where he has resided until his passing. Don was formerly married to Maxine Schreiter Varney. On January 28, 2000, Don was married to Carla Knickerbocker. For several years until his retirement, Don was employed as a salesman for the Mohawk Valley Printing Co. Don was a member of St. Mary's Church, Clinton, a member of the Helmuth-Ingalls American Legion Post 232, Franklin Springs, a past member of the Clinton Kiwanis Club, a past member of the Utica Curling Club, an active member of the Clinton Youth Hockey for many years, as coach, Board member , and past League President. Don was an avid hockey "self proclaimed" #1 Clinton Hockey Fan, a golf enthusiast and past member of the Skenandoa Club of Clinton. Don is survived by his wife, Carla of Clinton; one daughter, Lynne M. Barrett of Oregon; two sons and daughter in laws, David and Dianne Barrett of Clinton, Douglas and Lorna Barrett of Eldersburg, MD., a former daughter in law, Theresa Kinne of Eldersburg; nine grandchildren, Timothy and Pauline Kerr, of CA. Jeremiah Kerr, of FL. Samuel Kerr, of CO. Kayla Barrett and Ryan Barrett, of MD. Michael Barrett, Daniel Barrett, and Amanda Barrett all of Clinton, and Cyrill Jean and Philup Choi of CA.; three great grandchildren, Kailynne Kerr of MD., Lucinda Kerr and Madelyn Kerr of CO. Also one sister in law, Marie Barrett of Norwood , MA. Don was predeceased by his brother , Daniel Barrett. Mr. Barrett Funeral will be held Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 9:15 am from the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 E. Park Row, Clinton and at 10:00am at St. Mary's Church, Clinton, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. His Rite of Committal and Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. The Helmuth-Ingalls American Legion Post #232 will have their service at the funeral home at 6:30 pm. Donations in Don's memory would be appreciated to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Utica Rescue Mission.
