Richard A. Schreck, 56, of Utica, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2015 with his loving family by his side. Rick was born in Utica, on March 14, 1958, a son of the late John (Jack) and Fay Ann (Hall) Schreck. He was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. Rick served in the U.S. Navy from 1977 to 1988. Throughout his life, Rick was employed with Special Metals, Hemstrought's Bakery, E.C.R., and the Utica Catholic School System, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. He was a member of St. Joseph-St. Patrick's Church, the Knights of St. John, American Legion Utica Post #229 and American Legion Sylvan Beach Post #1153. Rick was a volunteer for the American Heart Run and Walk and the Boilermaker. Rick enjoyed camping with his family and in recent years, his father-in-law and best friend, Luis Ortiz. He was a dedicated NASCAR/Jeff Gordon fan. He also enjoyed the NY Jets, Denver Broncos, Duke Blue Devils and Syracuse Orange. His greatest love was spending time with his family, especially hosting holiday meals. Rick is survived by the love of his life of 26 wonderful years his wife, Connie Ortiz, his beloved daughter, Tiffany Fay Schreck and her partner, Michael Stefanski, as well as his soon-to-be grandson, Gavin, all of Utica. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Michael and Debra Schreck, Utica, Denise and Stephen Smith, Blossvale, Kimberly and Anthony Lanza, Herkimer, and Jeffrey Schreck, Utica; his father-in-law and mothers-in-law, Myra Miller and Luis and Felicia Ortiz; his step-mother, Barbara Schreck; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jack and Ang Ortiz, Julie and Ray Dyer, Marlene and Keith Moore, Luisito Ortiz, Sue and Dan Coyle, Dave Schimmelbusch, Cathy Saunders, and Jimmy Saunders; nieces and nephews, Vanessa Winch, David and Derek Secor, Anthony and Joseph Lanza, Matthew and Russell Schreck, Licia Ortiz, John Rando, Amanda Ortiz, Michael Reale, Lauren and Amber Lee, Angelina and Gabriella Deveans, Savanna Ortiz, Malik Ryan, Anthony, Shayla and Sade Moore, Kimberly, Elise and Ian Deming, Chad Jennings and other nieces and nephews in NY and TN. He is also survived by the "babies," Glenn Secor, Samantha and James Gleason, Isabella Leonis and Logan Reale; his "girls," Gianna and Ali Conte, Cassy Wahl and Lauren Venettozzi; special friends, J. K. and Hedy Hage, Christine Conte and Nick Kowalchuk, and Ellin and Colin Vogel; childhood friend, Tony King and many aunts, uncles and cousins, including Sharon Jennings, John (Jay) Buczek, Lesa King, and his canine best friend, Melbie. Rick was predeceased by his parents, his father in-law Fred Miller, nephew Keith Moore III and uncle Wayne Jennings. Mr. Schreck's funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 10:15 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and 11:00 at St. Joseph-St. Patrick's Church, Utica. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday from 4 - 8. In lieu of flowers, those so wishing may make donations to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Whitesboro - Team Hartford.
