Gladys Mary (Kisiel) Soja, 93, longtime resident of Yorkville, NY, passed away at the Fairport Baptist Home, Fairport, NY, surrounded by family, on January 2, 2015. Gladys was born in Utica, NY, November 27, 1921, the daughter of the late Walenty and Antonina (Niedzwicka). On June 28, 1947, she married the late Alexander John Soja. They were happily married for 37 years. Gladys was happiest when she was surrounded by family. She especially enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in athletics and other various activities. For many years she and her sister Toni were avid Yankee fans. A loving and treasured mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Gladys is survived by her four sons, John (Cindy), Raymond (Marcia), David (Kerry Lubey), and Michael (Karen). She was the proud grandmother of Kevin (Joann), Brian (Elizabeth), Stephen (Megan), Greg (Susan), David, Craig (Amanda), Christopher, Katelyn, Meghan, Geoffrey, Molly and Abby. She was also, the cherished great grandmother of Russell, William, Caroline, John, Brayden, Josephine, Natalie and the late, Faith. Gladys is also survived by her sister, Helen Schick, her brother, Raymond and a sister-in-law, Albina Kisiel, along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings Frank (Bertha), Stella Skutnik (Frank), Stephen, Antoinette, Edward and daughter Susan. Mrs. Soja's funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 10:45 am from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at 11:30 am at St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Whitestown. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday morning, from 9:30 - 10:30 am, prior to the service. The family would like to express thanks to Lifetime Care of Rochester for the comforting hospice care, as well as appreciation to the staff at Fairport Baptist Home for years of supportive service. Memorial donations may be made to Lifetime Care, 3111 Winton Rd South, Rochester, NY 14623-2905.
