Christopher J. Claeys, 66, of Utica, passed away Thursday, December 18, 2014 at his home. Chris was born on September 12, 1948 in Utica, the son of Donald C. and Mary (Willoughby) Claeys. He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School. Chris' lifetime career was installing and finishing hardwood and was recognized as one of the finest hardwood specialists in Central New York. He was one of the top area bowlers in the 1960's and 70's, having beaten professional bowlers several times at ProAm events. He was also known as an avid golfer and sports fan. Chris is survived by one brother, Donald (Joe) Claeys (& Anne); five sisters, Barbara Talerico, Diane Claeys (& Peter), Carolyn Breza (& Tom), Colleen Claeys, Jennifer Raucci (& Leo); a sister-in-law, Theresa Claeys (Garramone), as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, Chris was predeceased by two brothers, Stephen and Michael Claeys, and one sister, Mary Susan Snyder. Mr. Claeys' memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 12:00 noon at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home, Saturday morning, from 11 - 12, prior to the service.
