Catherine C. Rindenello, 92, of New Hartford passed away unexpectedly at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center, on December 7, 2014. Catherine was born in Utica on January 6, 1922, the daughter of the late John L. and Helen E. (O'Connell) Cavanaugh. She graduated with honors from Utica Free Academy and later attended Utica School of Commerce. Catherine's career in business started at Pfleeger's Office Supply in Utica, where she served as office manager. In 1950, Catherine married Nick J. Rindenello. Nick passed away in 2006. After raising her family, she continued her employment in customer service with the Remet Corporation in Utica, retiring shortly before her 80th birthday. She was a devout parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica. Catherine was an intelligent and independent woman with a great sense of humor. She was an avid Scrabble player who enjoyed weekly Scrabble Club gatherings for many years and treasured the special friends she made through the club. She continued to play Scrabble at a high level until her passing, inspiring family and friends with her love and knowledge of the game. Catherine also loved to read day and night. She will always be remembered for her generosity and charity toward others. Catherine is survived by four beloved daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Robert Barbato of Tucson, Ariz., Claire Rindenello and Bernd Janssen of Harvard, Mass., Therese and Thomas Kundel of Glenmont, N.Y., and Joanne and Thomas O'Toole of Liverpool, N.Y. She was the proud grandmother of Catherine, Patrick, Sarah, Ryan, Nicholas, Devin, Maria and Zachary, and adoring great grandmother of Maria, Thomas, Finnegan, Jenna and Damien. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Latus of Marcy, her sister-in-law, Katherine Sardina of New Hartford, brothers-in-law Edward Kinney of Calif., Robert Fairchild of N.J., and Albert Shkane of Utica, many nieces and nephews, her close friends Fran, Jackie and Maureen, and several caring neighbors. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Jane Kinney and her brother John Cavanaugh. Catherine's family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Amy Gorczynski for the skilled and compassionate care she provided to Catherine over the past several years. Mrs. Rindenello's Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, December 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica. Her burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Whitestown. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are entrusted to the Heintz Funeral Service, Inc., Utica, N.Y.
