Walter V. Wilczek Sr., 90, of Yorkville passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at the Katherine Luther Home surrounded by his loving family. Walter was born in Utica, NY on February 17, 1924, a son of Antoni and Honorata (Maciol) Wilczek. He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War. At Sacred Heart Church, Utica on November 29, 1947, Walter married June E. Wengert. The day of his passing they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. For many years he was employed with Kelsey Hayes retiring in 1988. He was a parishioner of the Church of the Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa. He was a 50 year member of the Yorkville Volunteer Fire Department and its fire police, the Malsan-Jones VFW Post #7393, New York Mills, the American Legion Post #1113, Whitesboro, the Whitestown Vets Club, the Greenfield Fish and Game Club, the Wyndott Fish and Game Club, Ducks Unlimited and the NRA. Walter loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman volunteering his time for 40 years to stock fish with the NYS DEC. One of his proudest moments was being inducted into the NYS Outdoorsman Hall of Fame in 1984. He derived great joy in spending time at his cottage on Oneida Lake with his family. In his younger years he was a licensed recreational pilot. Walter is survived by his wife, June, his five children, Walter Wilczek Jr., of Westmoreland, Steven Wilczek and Dr. Kathleen Fusco, of Remsen, Nancy Crandall, of Yorkville, Janice and Terry Johnson, of Poland, NY, and Susan and Daniel Mitchum, of N.C., thirteen grandchildren, Waylan, Cassandra, Dylan, Scott, Stephanie, Steven, Shawn, Matthew, Billy, Jessica, Russell, Mandy and Carrie, and several great grandchildren. Walter was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret Mieczkowski and Sophie Zdanowicz and two brothers, Chester and Stanley Wilczek. Mr. Wilczek's funeral will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at 10:00 from the Church of the Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa, New York Mills. Burial will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday from 4 - 7. Those so wishing may make donations to the Yorkville Volunteer Fire Department in Walter's memory. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Bryant Unit of the Katherine Luther Home for all the loving care given to Walter. The Yorkville Fire Department will meet at the funeral home Wednesday evening at 6:30
