Kathryn A. Mehaffy, 72, of North Utica, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014, while in the comfort of her daughters' home, in Saratoga Springs, NY. Kathy was born in Utica on July 18, 1942, the daughter of James H. and Gloria R. (Draper) Brewer. She was raised and educated locally and went on to earn her LPN in 1978. On May 12, 1979, Kathy married John (Jack) Mehaffy in Utica, sharing a union of over 33 years until his passing in 2013. She had been employed with the Masonic Home as well as being a private care nurse, before retiring to take care of her family. Kathy especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Christmas and Easter were very happy and special at Gramma and Papa's. Kathryn is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Michele Plourde and her companion, Michael Reesh, Cold Brook, NY, Gina and Charles DiDonato, Saratoga Springs, NY; three sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher J. and Marina Kistner, Utica, NY, John R. and Tina Kistner, New York Mills, NY, Jeffrey R. and Jaime Kistner, Portsmouth, VA; a stepdaughter, Gail Schmoke, Taberg, NY; a stepson, James Mehaffy, Sauquoit, NY; eleven grandchildren, Ryan, Kyle, Steven, Jeffrey, Nicole, Allison, Haley, Arianna, Aden, Charles, and Emma; one great-granddaughter, Alexa; one brother and sister-in-law, Michael L. and Rosemary Brewer, Palm Bay, FL. Besides her husband, Kathryn is predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Gary Brewer. Mrs. Mehaffy's funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 4 pm at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home, from 2 - 4 pm, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may donate to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., in Kathy's memory. Kathy's family would like to thank Dr. Desai, Windy Mitchell, the nurses and staff at the Regional Cancer Center at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, for the excellent care and compassion.
