JoAnn F. Hodkinson, 73, of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse surrounded by her loving family. JoAnn was born in Utica on April 9, 1945, a daughter of the late John T. and Frances (Kalinowski) Duda. She was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy, MVCC and Utica College. JoAnn was a registered nurse and very proud of the fact that she was the first person in the area to receive the certification of CARN. JoAnn was united in marriage to Robert B. Hodkinson on December 8, 1966 at St. Joseph’s Church in Utica. She was employed at Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center, including McPike Alcohol Treatment Center, retiring in 2000. JoAnn was a parishioner of Historic Old St. John’s Church in Utica, a member of the Red Hat Society, Retired Public Employees and the American Legion Post 229 Ladies Aux. JoAnn will be remembered for her dynamic personality and her special gift to touch the lives of people she met. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends. JoAnn is survived by her husband, Robert; her three children, Kevin Hodkinson and wife, Monica, of Utica, Kelly Hodkinson-Amado and Nicholas Logalbo, of Frankfort and Dan Hodkinson, of Syracuse; 8 grandchildren, Alexander Hodkinson, Terrel Richards, Josiah Hodkinson, Brittany Amado, Marissa Amado, Jessica Hodkinson, Mia Hodkinson and Anna Hodkinson; a daughter-in-law, Andrea Hodkinson, of Syracuse; 3 sisters, Valarie Zammiello, of NY Mills, Marcia Carbone and husband, James, of Utica and Debra Warmuth and husband, Paul, of Whitesboro; a brother, John Duda and wife, Lillie, of Whitesboro and many nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews, who JoAnn had a special love for. Mrs. Hodkinson’s funeral will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 10:00 at Historic Old St. John’s Church, Utica. Burial will be in St. George’s Cemetery, Whitesboro. Calling hours at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica are Sunday from 2-6. Those so wishing may make donations to the Mother Marianne’s West Side Kitchen or the Historic Old St. John’s Scholarship Fund in JoAnn’s memory. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Upstate Medical Center and a special thank you to Dr. Margarita Perez-Cheron for the many years of devoted care to JoAnn.
