Eldin A. Schumacher, Sr., 82, of New Hartford passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at home. Eldin was born in Utica on October 24, 1931, son of George and Delsie (Pudooh) Schumacher. He attended local schools and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In June 1954, Eldin married Elinor Moyer, a blessed union of 45 years until her death in 1999. Eldin was employed by Griffiss Air Force Base and the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1986. He was a well known mail carrier in the Highland section of West Utica for many years. Eldin loved carpentry, was very creative in many projects, and built a family camp in Verona Beach. Eldin is survived by his daughter, Diane and husband, Stan Ossowski, of Whitesboro, son, Eldin Schumacher, Jr., of Verona, special friend, Louise McGregor, of New Hartford, grandchildren, JoAnn and Joseph Shuping, of Charlotte, NC, Stacy and Jack Cihocki, of Vernon, Candice Ossowski, of Whitesboro, Amy Butler and April Butler, of Verona, sister, Bellvene Whipple, of Whitesboro, brother Martin Schumacher, of Troy, NY, sister-in-law, Jane Bach, of Liverpool, NY and brothers-in-law, John Diehl, of Verona Beach and Jack Jackson, of North Bay, NY. Eldin was predeceased by two sons James Schumacher and Lawrence Schumacher, two sisters, Delsie Baker and Marie Szblak and two brothers, George Schumacher and Gordon Schumacher. Mr. Schumacher's funeral will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 11:30 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at 12:00 from St. Joseph's & St. Patrick's Church, Utica. Entombment will be in the Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum of Holy Trinity Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Saturday morning from 9:30 to 11:30. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriner's Hospital of Springfield, Massachusetts. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home. The family wishes to thank the EMTs and local fire departments for their assistance.
