Sophie Elizabeth Lukaszewicz, 91, passed away at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center in New Hartford. Sophie was born in Utica, the daughter of the late Anthony and Catherine (Sebdza) Zukowski. She attended local schools, and was a graduate of Kings County School of Nursing in Brooklyn, NY. She later attended MVCC and SUNY IT. On February 10, 1945, Sophie married Adam S. Lukaszewicz, a devoted union of 30 years, until Adam's death in 1975. In 1985, Sophie retired from a supervisory nursing position with Broadacres Skilled Nursing Facility in Deerfield. She was of the Catholic faith. Sophie embraced life and all the family and friends who loved her. She was an illustrious woman of great faith in both word and action and was cherished by many throughout her life. Mrs. Lukaszewicz is survived her two brothers and their wives, Anthony J. and Phyllis Zukowski of Clinton, NY and Donald and Barbara Zukowski of Davidsonville, MD; Nephew, Dr. Mark Zukowski and wife Sylvia of Illinois; grand nieces, Erika and Nicole Zukowski; niece, Catherine Loschiavo and husband Joseph; grand nephews, Nico, Camden and Jake from MD; sister-in-law, Barbara Chudy; niece Paula Boyer and husband Kevin; grand nephews, Kevin Jr. and Adam Boyer; niece, Reggie Zdeb; grand nephew, Brian; grand niece, Michele; nephew, Michael Zdeb and wife Kathy and two grand nieces, Sara and Jesseca. Mrs. Lukaszewicz's funeral will be held on Saturday, September 27,2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, North Utica, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Her Rite of Committal and burial will be in St. Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyrs Cemetery in Whitesboro. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Peter's Church Memorial Fund, 422 Coventry Ave, Utica, NY 13502 in Sophie's memory.
