Gregory J. DeVito, 80, went home to be with the Lord on August 28, 2014. Greg was born in Utica, NY on March 6, 1934, the son of Gregory and Rosalie (Gerace) DeVito. He was raised in Utica and graduated from T.R. Proctor High School, and later attended Utica College of Syracuse University. Greg was an Army Veteran, who proudly served during the Korean conflict. In April 1959, at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Utica, he was married to Lois Harrison. With 38 years of service, Greg was employed in Research Support at Special Metals Corp. He also served for 45 years, with the Special Metals Federal Credit Union, as Union Manager and on the Board of Directors. Under his leadership, the credit union grew from just a handful of members to 1,500 members. In recognition, Greg was inducted into the Credit Union Association of New York's Hall of Fame in 2010. Gregory was a member of Pilgrim Holiness Church, Marcy, NY. Gregory is survived by his beloved wife, Lois R.; his son, Dean M.; two sisters in law and a brother in law, Doris Ann Ball of Greensburg, PA, and John and Carolyn Harrison, of Grafton, WV; three cousins, Camille LaBrie of Rochester, NY, Joseph Giannotti of Maynard, MA, and Carleen Giannotti of Barneveld, NY. He also leaves special friends, Paige and Bobby Wallace, Katherine Bohn, Mr.and Mrs. Chris Petrie, William Gant, Joan Boucher, and Mr. and Mrs. Brian Postal. Greg's family would like to offer many thanks to the Heritage Healthcare Center and the nursing staff of 2 South for the excellent care provided to Greg during his recent illness. A Funeral Service will be held, Tuesday evening, September 2, 2014, at 7:00 PM, at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., Utica. Burial will be Wednesday at the convenience of the family at Crown Hill Memorial Park, Kirkland. Calling hours at the funeral home, will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 prior to his service . In lieu of flowers, donations in Greg's memory would be appreciated to Pilgrim Holiness Church, Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. or the American Red Cross.
