Charles P. LaQuay, 79, of Utica, passed away on October 2, 2018. Charles was born in Boonville, NY on April 12, 1939, a son of Bill and Viola (Joslin) LaQuay. He was raised and educated in Boonville and was a 1957 graduate of Adirondack High School. Charles served in the Army from 1958-1961. He later graduated from Herkimer County Community College. On June 21, 1962 he was united in marriage to Gertrude Castaing, a blessed union of 54 years until her passing on February 23, 2016. Charles was employed at Herkimer County Community College and after his retirement was employed by the Utica City School District. Charles was a member of Herkimer County Community College Athletic Boosters, Utica and Mohawk Valley Softball leagues and many different pitch leagues. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time at his camp on the Black River. Charles is survived by a daughter, Kelly Rashford and her husband, Mark, of FL; two sons, Kevin LaQuay, of Richfield Springs and Keith LaQuay, of SC; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; a sister, Janice Pfendler, of Boonville; and two brothers, William LaQuay and David LaQuay, both of Boonville. Mr. LaQuay’s calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 11 – 1 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica with a service to follow at 1 pm. Burial will be in West Schuyler Cemetery. Those so wishing may make donations to Herkimer County Community College Athletic Dept. in Charles’ memory.
