Mr. James (Doc) J. Mason, Sr., 71, of Utica, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at his home with his loving wife of 33 years, Lisa Mason and niece, Lisa White by his side. James was born in Portsmouth, VA on December 24, 1942 and has resided in the Utica area for many years. Doc was employed with LB Security, Wilcor International and more recently for Oneida County as Commissioner of Deeds, County Clerk Notary and Board of Elections. He was a very active gentleman who would help anyone in need. Doc was a loving and caring husband and father and will be sadly missed by his beloved wife, Lisa; two sons, Maurice Goldsborough and James J. Mason, Jr.; sister, Linda Mason as well and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Rose Smith. Mr. Mason's funeral will be held on Monday, July 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. His burial will be in King Northampton Cemetery in Northampton, NY. Calling hours for family and friends are Monday morning, 9:00-11:00 prior to the funeral service. Mr. Mason's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. for the wonderful care and compassion you provided to Doc.
