Phyllis M. Powers, 92, passed away at the Siegenthaler Center of Hospice and Palliative Care, New Hartford on July 5, 2014. Phyllis was born in Utica, on March 30,1922, the daughter of the late Andrew and Agnes (Hennessey) Steves. She was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of UCA. At St. Peter's Church, on November 29, 1947, Phyllis was married to Robert Powers. He passed away in 2009. For a number of years , until her retirement Phyllis was employed with the NY Telephone Co. She worked prior to that with the Pride of Utica Ice Cream Co. She was a member of St. Peter's Church, Utica. With her husband and children, Phyllis enjoyed traveling the country, and camping in various locations. She is survived by one daughter and son in law, Mary Ann and Clarence Penree of Deerfield; one son and his fiancée, Daniel M. Powers and Tammi Capuana of Clinton; five grandchildren, Daniel R. (and Holly), Diane C., and Danielle C. Powers, Brian Koscielniak and his special friend, Lindsay Burke, and Matthew Koscielniak and his fiancée, Kaitlyn Billings; two great grandchildren, Abigail C. Powers and Donald R. Koscielniak; one brother, Donald Steves of N. Utica; special nephew and his wife, James and Susan Steves , and a niece and her husband, Jean and Fred Cognetti . She also leaves several other nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Phyllis was predeceased by a brother, Andrew Steves. The family would like to make a special thank you to the Presbyterian Home and to Hospice and Palliative Care for all their and kindness. Mrs. Powers' funeral will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 9:45 am from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica, and at 10:30 am at St. Peter's Church, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Her burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday evening (today) from 5:00 until 8:00 pm. Those wishing may donate to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. in Phyllis' memory.
