Donald J. Moore, 81, of New Hartford, passed away June 28, 2014 at home with his loving family by his side. Donald was born in Utica on July 27, 1932, the son of Edward and Jane (Gagan) Moore Sr. He was a 1950 graduate of UCA and attended Niagara University. On July 25, 1959 at Sacred Heart Church, Utica, Donald was united in marriage to Mildred "Milly" Bohling. Donald was employed at General Electric retiring in 1999. After his retirement, Donald worked at Forest Hill Cemetery and for the past 7 years volunteered at St John the Evangelist Church where he enjoyed working on the grounds. Donald was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 189 and its 4th Degree Assembly for 63 years and a former member of The Legion of Mary and the Men's Club of the church. He was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. Donald was a devoted Chicago White Sox fan. His greatest sports moment was attending the opening game of the 2005 World Series. Donald was deeply devoted to his loving wife, children and grandchildren. It brought him great joy to travel all over the country to visit them, a time that they will remember and cherish. He especially enjoyed watching the many sporting events of his grandchildren. "Don's Motto" - "God first, Family and friends second and hard work, third." Donald is survived by his loving wife, Milly, seven children, Joseph and wife Nancy, AZ, Donna Moore, Syracuse, Sally and husband Michael DeGeorge, MA, Edward and wife Lori, Buffalo, Theresa and husband, Stephen Strassberger, New Hartford, John and wife Jennifer, NC and Mary Knoth, New Hartford, eighteen grandchildren, Katie, Colin, Derek, Lucas, Nathan, Shannon, Meaghan, Connor, and Brennan Moore, Kelsey Lent-Moore, Hayden and Shayla DeGeorge, Ryan, Eric, Evan, and Luke Strassberger and Shawn and Matthew Knoth, a brother, Rev. Edward F. Moore,MM of Maryknoll, NY and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Frank Skelly, Albany and Dorothy and Robert Nolan, Whitesboro. He is also survived by his in-laws, Lillian Lorraine, Camden, Sally and Carl Barth, New Hartford, Eleanor and Steve Moran, New Harford, Bette Bohling, Sauquoit and Mary Bohling, Sauquoit and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special people in his life, Peter Knoth, Kathy Lent, Edward Koslick, Bill Falk, Tom Rice, Neil and Peg Waterman, Joe and Carol Dahm, and Jim and Maureen Grimmer. Donald was predeceased by two grandsons, John Lovell Moore and Christopher Joseph Knoth, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jeanette and Bob Kress and Peg and Ed Ruffing, a special aunt and uncle, Mable and John Hayden, in-laws, Frances and Howard Bohling, Howard Bohling, Arthur and Nancy Bohling, George Bohling, William Bohling, Betty and Gene Smith and Richard Lorraine and best friends, Bob and Dewey Cox and Evelyn Hobica. Mr. Moore's funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 12:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at 1:00 at St. John the Evangelist Church, New Hartford. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday from 3 - 7. Those so wishing may make donations to St. John the Evangelist Church, Hospice and Palliative Care or the Maryknoll Missions. Knights of Columbus will meet at the funeral home Tuesday evening at 6:30.
