Obituary of Margaret S. Burke

Margaret S. Burke, 83, a resident of the Hawthorne House of Charles T. Sitrin Health Care Center, New Hartford, formerly of North Utica, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2014 at the home. Margaret was born on September 25, 1930, in Newton, MA, the daughter of Arthur S. and Margaret (MacDonald) Sobey. She was raised and educated there, graduating from Newton High School. On July 8, 1951, Margaret married Henry J. Burke, sharing a union of 38 years until his passing in 1989. Margaret had been employed with Henry's business, Manpower, Inc., until retiring to raise her family. She then took on the titles of wife, mom, nana, and super nana--employed by all but herself. This was a job she loved, spending all her time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Margaret was a member of St. Peter's Church, North Utica. Margaret is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Tom Ulrich, Sun City Center, FL, Laura and Paul Hart, Horseheads, NY, Patricia and Russell Williams, Marcy, NY, Barbara and Kurt Hansen, Kingston, NY; a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Kelly Burke, Pennellville, NY; as well as by eleven cherished grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Daniel and Sterling Sobey. She is predeceased by three sisters, Laura, Vera, and Judy. Mrs. Burke's funeral will be held on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. Peter's Church in North Utica, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Holland Patent Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica on Sunday evening, from 5 - 7 pm. Those wishing may donate to the American Diabetes Association in Margaret's memory. The family offers their thanks and heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Hawthorne House of the Sitrin Home for the care, compassion, and many kindnesses shown to both Margaret and her family during her stay. They treated Margaret as if she was their own family.
