Obituary of Joseph Lewis Fischer

Mr. Joseph "Bud" Lewis Fischer, 82. of Marcy, formerly of West Utica, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Faxton-St. Luke's healthcare in New Hartford with his loving family by his side. Joseph was born in Utica on January 5, 1932 the son of Joseph Charles and Alvina (Heintz) Fischer. He was raised in Utica, attended St. Joseph grade school, was a graduate of Whitesboro High School, and earned an associated degree from Mohawk Valley Technical Institute. Joseph honorably served in the US Army, where he was stationed in Germany and Amsterdam. On June 3, 1967, Joseph married Dorothy J. Rebisz, a loving union of 47 years. For 35 years, he was employed as a draftsman with Bendix Corp., retiring in 1990. Joseph was a devout Catholic and lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church in Utica, where he served as an usher for 60 years, was a past member of the Parish Council and loved to volunteer his time making kielbasa sandwiches at the parish's German Picnic. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed small game hunting, fishing, and tending to his vegetable and flower gardens. He also enjoyed bowling and was an amateur photographer. Joseph was a true family man, whose children and grandchildren were the light of his life. Mr. Fischer is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and James Furmanski of Marcy and Patricia and Raymond DeCarr of Marcy; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Colleen Fischer of Utica; seven cherished grandchildren, Alexa DeCarr, Ryan Furmanski, Rielly Fischer, Everett Fischer, Austin Furmanski, Jacqueline (baby bear) Fischer and Kylee DeCarr; aunt, Mary Louise Heintz; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jeanette Fischer, Mary Jane and Anthony Fanelli, Peter Rebisz, Roger and Marylyn Rebisz, Richard and Donna Rebisz, Veronica and Frank Mutolo, Barbara Rebisz and Connie Rebisz as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Fischer. Mr. Fischer's funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 9:15 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and 10:00 at St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church where his Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Rite of Committal and burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Yorkville.
