Mr. John C. Edwards, 90, of Deerfield, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. John was born in Utica on July 30, 1923, the son of Clifford and Mary (Christie) Edwards and received his education in Utica schools. He honorably served in the Unites Stated Marine Corps during WW II. On August 27, 1955, John married Carmella M. Vegas Gordon at St. Patrick's Church in Utica. He was employed with Walter Kidde Construction Company, later at Vernon Downs race track for John J. Harvey and for 34 years, with S. J. Groves and Son's Company in Minnesota, retiring in 1987. John was a member of American Legion Utica Post 229, N. Utica, VFW Malsan Jones post 7393, NY Mills, the Deerfield Senior Center and a parishioner of St. Peter's Church in N. Utica. He was also an avid golf enthusiast. Mr. Edwards is survived by his beloved wife, Carmella; one daughter and son-in-law, Jean Linda and Arthur Friedburg of New Hartford, NY; three sons and a daughter-in-law, John Robert Edwards of Madison, NY, Robert John and Erica Edwards of Conesus, NY and Ian Vogel of Rome, NY as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert F. Edwards. Mr. Edwards' funeral will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Church where his Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.
