Obituary of William J. Hameline

William J. (Bill) Hameline, Jr., 86, died Tuesday, February 18, 2014, in the home that he built 65 years ago in the village of Clinton. Bill was born in Utica on June 4, 1927, the son of William and Cecelia Smith Hameline. He moved to Clinton when he was in third grade, and graduated from Clinton High School where he played hockey, football, baseball and track. After high school, he enlisted in the US Navy and served on the USS Taconic during World War II. He then attended Clarkson and Utica College before joining his father at Utica Sheet Metal, the family's mechanical contracting firm. Bill married Anne Robischon on October 1, 1949, at St Francis de Sales Church in Utica, and they spent the next 65 years together in Clinton and at their camp on Big Moose Lake in the Adirondacks. Bill worked at Utica Sheet Metal his entire life, retiring as President in 1986. He also served as President of the Central New York Sheet Metal Contractor's Association. He was a member of the Clinton Fire Department for over 60 years, and proudly served his village as Fire Chief during the 1960s. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a member of the Clinton Village Board. Bill was a member of the American Legion Helmuth-Ingalls Post 232 of Clinton. A lifelong hockey player and fan, he was a Director of the Clinton Rink Association and a member of the Clinton Youth Hockey Association for over 30 years, where he served as a coach, referee, and several terms as President. He was also the founding President of the Central New York Iroquois League. Bill loved to go trout fishing and deer hunting in the woods around Big Moose Lake. He was also an avid water skier, the co-founder of the Big Moose Water Ski Club, and enjoyed teaching his many children and grandchildren to ski. He is survived by his wife, Anne, of Clinton, his sons and their wives, Thomas and Cynthia of Brooklyn, H. Joseph and Lisa of Boston, John of Clinton, and Robert and Barbara of Clinton, and daughter in law Gale Hameline by his grandchildren Lynn, John, William, Amanda, Sofia, Peter, and Lucas. Also surviving are his in laws, Margaret Findley, Elizabeth and Donald Romanelli, and Lois O'Brien, He was predeceased by his children Mary, William, and Peter, and his sister, Gloria O'Brien. Mr. Hameline's funeral will be held Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 9:30 am, at St. Mary's Church, Clinton, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated. His Rite of Burial and Committal will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 E. Park Row, Clinton, will be from 4:00 until 7:00 pm., Friday evening. The Clinton Fire Department, will fallout for Honor Call at 6:00 pm, Friday. Donations in Bill's memory, would be appreciated to the Clinton Fire Department.
