Miss Bernadette Baechle, 89, a resident of the St. Luke's Home, formerly of New Hartford, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at the nursing home with her loving nieces by her side. Bernadette was born in Utica on July 8, 1924, the daughter of J. Albert and Hilda L. (Windheim) Baechle. She was raised locally and was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School, class of 1942. For many years, she was employed with Hedderich & Leonard Insurance Company, retiring in 1989. Bernadette enjoyed reading, traveling with her sister, Helen and was a parishioner of St. John The Evangelist Church in New Hartford. Miss Baechle is survived by three nieces and two nephews as well as 9 great nieces and nephews and 5 great great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Mary Elizabeth (McMahon) Baechle and sister, Helen Baechle. Miss Baechle's funeral will be held on Monday, January 6, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John The Evangelist Church, where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Rite of Committal and burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Yorkville. There are no calling hours. Miss Baechle's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Staff on Barton North at the St. Luke's Home for the loving care and compassion given to Bernadette. A special thank you to Wanda Gregory for the friendship and spiritual guidance you provided to Bernadette over the past number of years.
